Karen Fergus
With over 25 years of experience, Karen graduated from the Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1993 with a BSc honours degree in physiotherapy. After her training, she worked for the NHS at Withington Hospital in Manchester and then at Whipps Cross Hospital in East London.
Since then Karen has worked in several private practices, for Tesco and for a range of sports clubs in East London and Essex. Karen has also provided physiotherapy for the contestants of Cirque de Celebrité and for the Girls Soccer Team for Living TV. She opened Back2Balance Physiotherapy and Pilates Clinic in Walthamstow in 2010.
Karen has extensive experience in treating musculoskeletal and orthopaedic problems and sports injuries. Her area of expertise is assessing postural and movement dysfunctions, particularly altered biomechanics of the spine and the sacroiliac joint, which can cause lower back and leg pain.
With a special interest in clinical modified Pilates, Karen has integrated Pilates into her treatment and rehab programmes, helping to reduce patients’ postural pain and enhancing movement. She holds certificates from both The Australia Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute and the DMA.
Karen is also trained in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, which she offers to patients too. She has found this to be an invaluable, complementary practice to physiotherapy in managing both acute and chronic pain.
Outside of work Karen is kept busy looking after her two young daughters. When she finds time she enjoys eating out, watching films and playing sports.
Karen offers physio and acupuncture sessions on Monday to Friday and teach Pilates online on Saturday mornings.
